Karewa field

In June 2025, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) approved our application for a Petroleum Mining Permit (PMP) for the Kārewa natural gas field.

The PMP enables Todd Energy to retain access to the Kārewa acreage while progressing technical and commercial evaluations to inform a full feasibility study and decision, within the initial seven-year decision period, on whether to advance development or relinquish the permit.

Any future development of Kārewa would be subject to regulatory approvals and engagement with iwi and hapū and is not expected before the early 2030s.

Field facilities

If the Kārewa field is developed, it is expected that existing facilities in Taranaki would be utilised.
